A New Shelter - A New Beginning

In June of 2017, we opened the doors to the NEW Porter County Animal Shelter located at 3355 Bertholet Boulevard in Valparaiso. The opening of this $3.25 million state of the art facility marked a turning point for the animals, Shelter staff and Porter County's citizens.

The new facility was funded by $2.25 million in interest earned on the proceeds from the sale of the old hospital (no taxpayer funds were used), and a $1 million dollar donation.

THANK YOU, JACKI STUTZMAN!

We want to thank Jacki Stutzman for her considerable support of the new Shelter through her $1 million donation. Jacki’s support has gone beyond just financial...she started as a volunteer at the shelter over 7 years ago in jeans and a t-shirt scooping up dog poop and cleaning cages. She has been a steadfast supporter and advocate for the homeless animals of Porter County.

Jacki has provided funding for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department to purchase a new K-9 dog, served on the boards of the Valpo YMCA, Porter County Community Foundation and Memorial Opera House Foundation, providing substantial financial support to those organizations and many others throughout Porter County. Thank you, Jacki. You have made Porter County a better place for our animals and our citizens.

Our friend and benefactor, now affectionately known by all as "Aunt Jacki", is pictured above with a sculpture and plaque installed at the front of our new shelter recognizing her donation. The quote from Jacki on the plaque reads "The animals don't have a voice, so you're going to be hearing from me for a long time." We are counting on it, Jacki! And we are honored to have such a forceful advocate on the side of our animals!

Take A Look At Our New Facility!
